[Matthew 5:6 NASB95] 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Have you ever been so hungry or thirsty that you couldn’t think of anything else? It distracted you from all other tasks. You could not focus until you filled your belly. We could apply this to our spiritual walk with Christ.
But first, let’s define and clarify what “righteousness” means. Simply put it is doing what is right. But then we have to ask, “Doing what is right in the eyes of who?” Doing what is right and acceptable in the eyes of GOD!
In other words, throughout your 24-hour day do you find yourself concerned about or asking questions such as, “Does GOD approve of what I am doing right now?” “Does this make Him proud or does this make Him disappointed?” Those types of questions are the right questions to ask.
Let’s put it this way, “When your desire is to please GOD and do what is right in His eyes, then you will go to His Word and find out what pleases Him. Once you find out what pleases Him you will attempt to do those things. And when you do the things that please Him you will be satisfied because you know, through the assurance and encouragement of the Scriptures and God’s Holy Spirit, you are doing what is pleasing and acceptable to Him.”
Still wondering where you stand?
Here’s a good question for self-examination, “For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.” [Galatians 1:10]
And Jesus tells us not to worry about what we will eat or what we will wear, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” [Matthew 6:33]
It’s not easy to do what is right and pleasing to GOD, but we will be satisfied when we know GOD is satisfied with us, because we are eager to live a life that is acceptable to Him.
