[Matthew 5:9 NASB95] 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Before we look at the words of Jesus let’s look at the word, Peace. The Hebrew word is shalom. It means completeness and wholeness, nothing lacking.
Do you have peace in your life?
Jesus is the only One who can give peace and a part from Jesus we have no peace.
[Romans 5:1] “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
[John 14:27] Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
Now, to our passage. Peacemakers are blessed and will be called the sons and daughters of GOD. To paraphrase a preacher who said it well, “Satan’s objective is to take what is whole and destroy it into a million pieces, while GOD takes those pieces and restores them to wholeness.” We were broken and beyond repair, BUT GOD…sent Jesus into the world and He has redeemed us and through faith made us alive together with Him [Ephesians 2:5; Colossians 2:13].
In our lives there are tensions and struggles and ego and pride that arise and cause division among people. It is natural and fleshly to give in to anger and emotion, but it is supernatural and Godly to want to maintain and/or restore peace in all situations and in all people. But remember being a peacemaker is not being a pushover. It may take a little confrontation to restore true peace in a person or situation. The greatest service we can do for people is to give them peace.
How can we give someone peace?
By pointing them to Christ and pray that the Holy Spirit grants them repentance leading to faith in Christ. Worldly people create drama and chaos and confusion, but that is not the way of GOD’s people, because that is not the way of our GOD. “For God is not [a God] of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” [1 Corinthians 14:33]
Brother and sister in Christ, seek to be a peacemaker who looks out for the well-being of all people, wanting to see them reconciled to the GOD who created them.
