"The Words of Jesus #7 – Those Who Grieve Will Be Comforted" by Chris Godbey

[Matthew 5:4 NASB95] 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

There are things in life that cause us grief. Sometimes we bring it on ourselves and sometimes it comes out of nowhere and we have absolutely no control over it. Sometimes we mourn over our sin and turn away from it. Sometimes we mourn over the sins of others and pray that GOD would open their eyes. Grief is inevitable. Sometimes it passes quickly and sometimes it stays for years and years. Wherever you are in this season of life, know that your mourning will turn to comfort.

When you are in the thick of grief and mourning, it’s difficult to see into the future even a little bit, if any at all. Sometimes we can’t see past the pain, but I pray that GOD remains gracious to us and we maintain our faithfulness to Him. He is a loving GOD who will ‘never leave us or forsake us’ (Hebrews 13:5) and a GOD who ‘works all things together for our good’ (Romans 8:28). And just think of the blessing it is to have someone in your life who’s been where you are and experienced what you have experienced. And GOD has brought them through it and they are a comfort to you. And one day you can be a comfort to someone else. That’s exactly what GOD tells us in His Scriptures, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” [2Corintihians 1:3-4]

There’s a prophecy in Isaiah that was fulfilled through Jesus, “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn.” [Isaiah 61:1-2]

Today, if you are mourning, I pray that in the pain Jesus will give you comfort.
