[Matthew 4:18-20 NASB95] 18 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
Peter and his brother, Andrew, were fishermen. They made their living and supported their families by it. Their career was catching and selling fish. They sold physical food for physical nourishment, but Jesus encourages them to look beyond the physical need into the spiritual need of the people around them. Right now, you are concerned about fish, but soon you will be concerned about people’s souls.
After you have been born again (born from above) and seek to follow GOD and trust Him with your life then your perspective changes. You cannot encounter the Savior of the world and not be changed. Physical food is important, we have to have it, but spiritual food is much more important, but is often neglected. Physical food does not have weight lingering into eternity, but spiritual does. "Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life," [John 6:27] "Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated?” [Matthew 15:17]
If you are a born again believer, do not neglect presenting Jesus to the people around you. GOD is gracious and allows us to join Him in His ministry of reconciliation. "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." [Luke 19:10]
May GOD give His church a desire and a heart that longs to see people saved!
