How Much Have You Changed Since Then?

January 10, 1999 was the day that the congregation of Rolling Fork Baptist Church voted to make me their pastor. Soon after I started preaching there each Sunday, I told them that I would like to offer our Sunday morning messages on cassette tapes to give away to anyone who missed that Sunday or that just wanted to hear that message. I mentioned it and our congregation took action. The funds needed to begin that ministry were donated that day and we began to record our sermons, make duplicate copies and have them on the back table for anyone who wanted them. That went on for a while and then we were able to make CD's and DVD's of the message. Technology kept improving and giving us more ways to share the message. Now we record the message each week on a SD card and load it onto the computer to be added to our website and our channel on Spotify. Now, there is no expense buying the blank tapes or discs. No more labels to print like the one pictured above. No more limitations getting the word out.

It is so amazing to see how far this type of ministry has grown and as I thought about that, I began to ask myself "How much have we changed?" as individuals and as a church body? Have we grown that much or are we similar to the spiritual maturity that we had in 1999? I am reminded of the little boy who fell out of bed. When his mom asked him what happened, he said "I guess I stayed too close to where I got in." Does that sound like you and me in our spiritual walk with Christ? Have we grown or are we falling backwards? This would be a great day to examine our hearts and see where we really are. Maybe we have also stayed too close to where we got in.
