How many times have you heard someone say "God told me..." or "Jesus told me..."? Any time I hear that, a red flag goes up in the air. Especially when they say that Jesus told them something that is not biblical. Am I saying that God or Jesus does not talk to us? No but I am saying that God and Jesus speak to us in the following ways and when They do speak, it always matches up with what the Bible says.
Hebrews 1:1–2 (ESV) — 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the ages. During the days that Jesus walked the earth as fully God and fully man, He spoke directly to us but now that He has ascended back into heaven, He speaks to us through the Bible, the Holy Spirit, other believers and our circumstances. This is what you will see if you read "Experiencing God" by Henry Blackaby and scripture backs up what he said about this.
"Reality 4: God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways." Henry Blackaby
Yes, the Holy Spirit will prompt us to do things but we must be very careful about saying "God told me..." or "Jesus told me...".
